It’s fair to say that Diwali fireworks came a bit early to Bombay House, the 92-year-old headquarters of India’s Tata Group.
In some stunning corporate pyrotechnics on Oct. 24, the board of Tata Sons, the holding company of the group, booted out its chairman, Cyrus Mistry. In his place, Ratan Tata, the ageing patriarch of the tea-to-software conglomerate, returned to his old seat temporarily.
In all, it’s been a gruelling week for the Tata and Mistry clans, every shocked journalist covering the boardroom machinations, and all Indians who worry about the state of one of their most beloved brands.
But the good news is that Diwali, the Indian festival of lights, fireworks, casual gambling, gifts and sweets, is just around the corner. To celebrate, we’ve created a multicultural brew that captures the flavour of the current corporate season:
2 parts Old Monk rum (a cultural icon of India, just like the Tata Group)
3 parts Baileys Original Irish Cream (in honour of Cyrus Mistry, who is half-Irish)
Pour over lots of ice in a rock glass.
Garnish with a sliced chili or two (the perfect addition of fireworks).
