Spanish filmmaker Antonio Rodríguez Canto spent a year filming the movement of corals, something that’s almost imperceptible to the human eye because the movement is so slow. But after taking some 25,000 photos, Canto created this mesmerizing time lapse, which you can watch in the video above. It offers us a unique insight into this beautiful species. Canto says he tried to be as faithful as possible to the actual colors, but he tweaked the color saturation when he felt it was needed. His goal, he says, was to make the result more aesthetic than scientific. It’s worth nothing that Canto is not the first filmmaker who’s tried to document the the movement of corals. Here’s another film by an Australian photographer Daniel Stoupin. There is also a whole website dedicated to coral time lapse films run by Dr Pim Bongaerts, of the University of Queensland in Australia.
