The body of late senator John McCain will lay in state in Arizona’s state capitol in Phoenix today (Aug. 29), starting five days of commemorating his life in Arizona and Washington DC.

After a private, formal ceremony at 10am US Pacific time, the body will be displayed for public viewing from 2 to 5pm. Despite Arizona’s permissive gun laws, firearms are among the items not allowed at the viewing, along with cameras, and large bags. (There will be gun lockers available for storage.)

The event will be live streamed on the late senator’s site beginning at 2pm.

A public procession in Phoenix and services at North Phoenix Baptist Church are set for tomorrow.

McCain’s body will lay in state at the US Capitol in Washington on Aug. 31, and a procession and service are scheduled for the Washington National Cathedral on Sept. 1.

The Capitol viewing will also be live streamed on the McCain site, as will the service at the National Cathedral. Major US TV outlets—Fox News, ABC News, CNN, NBC, CBS, and C-SPAN—will also cover the events.

The family has requested that any flower offerings be sent to local US Veterans Affairs hospitals.
