Newsweek is shuttering its Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore offices, advertising trade title Marketing reports, citing anonymous sources. This is part of a cost saving strategy that will also involve the title going fully digital by 2013. Despite the money it will save from closing in Asia, Newsweek will keep charging for subscriptions after it migrates fully to the web. That is even though its online sister publication, the Daily Beast, is free. Tina Brown (pictured) will lead both titles.
