Zynga, the social gaming company behind FarmVille, has applied for a gambling license in Nevada. The company’s stock has plummeted by more than three quarters in the last year. It has also slashed earnings forecasts and fired staff as its revenues sagged due to the social gaming market becoming too crowded. A gambling license may open up new revenue streams from titles such as Zynga Poker, which at the moment only allows users to bet with virtual chips that have no monetary value.
