Scottish illustrator Lucy Scott knows it’s not always fun being a new mom. Between the extreme sleep deprivation and the breast feeding, the isolation and the copious amounts of poop, it can be a challenging endeavor. These everyday struggles—and small victories—so endemic to parenthood are brought to life in Scott’s new book, Doodle Diary of a New Mom, an illustrated trip down parenting’s memory lane.
According to her publisher, Running Press, Scott gave birth to her first child in 2012. “Despite her extensive pre-baby research, nothing prepared her for the momentous task of caring for this new little person,” notes the publisher.
Doodle Diary of a New Mom features 120 different “it’s funny because it’s true” vignettes, all illustrated in Scott’s distinctive two-color style. The moral of the story? Buckle up, new parents, you may be in for a bumpy ride.
