Hillary Clinton posted a #tbt on Instagram today that demonstrated not only her continued mastery of the medium, but also a brilliant fashion moment I would love to see her reprise in 2015. What’s more, she knew it was great!
Rather than posting some falsely self-deprecating caption or ”LOL #pleats,” she just stated: “’80s fashion wasn’t all bad. #tbt #blackandwhite.” And no, it was not all bad, as Clinton proves in a soft-lapeled coat, an elegant, pre-hipster fedora, high-waisted slacks, and a gleaming smile worthy of Lauren Hutton.
It’s impossible to tell what colors these expertly layered pieces are, but they appear to be neutrals—at least in my imagination they are black, cognac or gray, and something tweedy—rather than the shocking pink and cobalts we’ve grown accustomed to seeing on Clinton today.
Dear Ms. Clinton, please dig out this spirit and this smile—if not this coat. I think there were some some this season at Lemaire and Narciso Rodriguez that may serve if this one has been donated.
And Clyde, send this candidate a hat.
