The going rate for Google Glass on eBay is $15,225

This is probably not the way to be the first non-Google employee to get Glass.

Update: The eBay auction for a Google Glass headset has been taken down. Appears it was fake, after all! It remains a telling indicator of overal interest in Google Glass, however.

Original: Someone on in Cleveland, Ohio claims they have a Google Glass headset, and they’re auctioning it off on eBay. Glass is Google’s forthcoming gadget that puts the internet into a tiny eyepiece that sits in front of a person’s right eye, so they need never be disconnected again.

Given that even the developers to whom Google promised to deliver the first versions of Google Glass have yet to receive their models, the one offered on eBay is probably fake. But that hasn’t stopped early adopters from bidding the sole pair of hypothetically publicly available Google Glasses up to $15,225 as of this writing.

As a measure of public interest in Google Glass, that’s a pretty amazing number, considering that Google has promised that the ultimate price of Glass, to be released late this year, will be significantly less than the $1,500 it will charge the earliest adopters.
