Rupert Murdoch, the 84-year-old media mogul, and Jerry Hall, the 59-year-old former partner of Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, have announced their engagement, following a four-month relationship.
The announcement was made on the Births, Marriages, and Deaths page of the Times, a newspaper owned by Murdoch’s News Corp.
The couple made their relationship public in October, and appeared together at the rugby World Cup.
The marriage will be Murdoch’s fourth, after a very public divorce from Wendi Deng two years ago. Hall has four children with Jagger, but their marriage ended in 1999 with their unofficial ceremony being ruled null and void.
Hall, a former model and actress, explained why she preferred older men in a 2005 interview:
I think older men make better lovers. They are more experienced, they know how to please you and if they do have problems they can be easily fixed with a quick trip to the doctors.
Younger men, well they want you to listen to Coldplay and there ain’t no cure for that.
