Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump announced on Twitter Friday morning (July 15) what had been all but officially confirmed: Indiana governor Mike Pence would be his running mate in the 2016 general election.
Trump had previously intended to announce his vice presidential pick at a news conference scheduled for Friday morning, but he postponed the event after the terror attacks in Nice, France, Thursday night. Instead, he tweeted out the news this morning:
The choice, reports say, had come down to Pence and former Speaker of the House and 2012 Republican primary candidate Newt Gingrich.
