As if having the world’s tallest building, largest mall, longest painting, largest bus mosaic, and largest reading lesson weren’t enough, Dubai has now set the foundation for what it says will become the world’s tallest tower. This record—not to be confused with the world’s tallest building (currently held by Dubai’s Burj Khalifa)—is for any tower in which less than 50% of the structure is usable floor space. For now, Dubai’s tower is simply called “The Tower,” and is expected to be completed in 2020. Its developer, Emaar Properties, is keeping the height a secret, but say at completion it will be taller than the Burj Khalifa, as well as Japan’s Tokyo SkyTree, which currently holds the record for the world’s tallest tower. The tower will feature several garden-themed observation desks with sweeping views of the city.
