Tucked away in nondescript office building in Kansas City, Missouri is one of the oldest corporate art collections in the US. Around 3,800 works by 1,200 of the world’s greatest artists including Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, and Sol LeWitt belong to the company that brings us glittery Mother’s Day cards, Precious Moments ornaments, and picture frames with inspirational quotes: Hallmark. The collection, which dates back to the 1940s, is a mix of paintings, sculptures, video art, and photography. Curators rotate the artwork throughout the company’s Kansas City headquarters and various corporate offices elsewhere. It’s not meant for public display, but to be a source of inspiration for its employees—there are 500 artists employed by Hallmark at the Kansas City office alone. Watch our video to see what pieces Hallmark owns, and how its creatives engage with the great masters of art every day.
