Airbnb $ABNB is deploying its anti-party booking technology across the U.S. for the July 4 holiday weekend, the fifth consecutive year it has done so for the holiday.
Powered by machine learning, the technology screens whole-home reservation attempts for signals associated with unauthorized party risk, steering flagged users toward other options available on the platform — among them private room listings and hotel stays.
Over the July 4 weekend last year, more than 20,000 U.S. users were steered away from whole-home listings flagged as higher risk. Among those, Airbnb counted approximately 3,100 in Florida, an equal number in Texas, and around 2,500 in California.
"This is the fifth year in a row we've run these defenses for July 4, and last year they redirected more than 20,000 people from higher-risk bookings over the holiday weekend," Rog Kaiser, vice president of fraud and safety operations at Airbnb, said in a statement. "That kind of capability — improved year over year — is what it takes to help make the holiday great for our hosts, guests and the communities around them."
The holiday measures work alongside Airbnb's global reservation screening technology, which operates year-round to mitigate higher-risk bookings. Party reports tied to U.S. stays came in at under 0.06% of total bookings on the platform in 2025, according to the company.
Alongside the anti-party measures, Airbnb reiterated its rules around minors: no one under 18 may hold an account, and adults are barred from reserving a property on behalf of a minor if the adult will not be present throughout the stay. Breaking these rules can trigger account suspension, the voiding of pending reservations, and exposure to financial claims for any damage caused. Should a party lead to a police response, the account holder may face additional legal liability.
Neighbors who suspect a listed property is hosting an unauthorized gathering can reach out via Airbnb's Neighborhood Support Line, while hosts and guests have access to a round-the-clock safety line for direct assistance. Hosts can also enroll in a noise sensor program designed to catch potential problems early, and a separate dedicated channel gives law enforcement a direct path to Airbnb's response team when a listing may be involved in an incident.
