Anthropic launched Claude Corps, a fellowship program backed by $150 million that will train and embed 1,000 early-career workers at nonprofits across the United States to help those organizations put the company's Claude AI to work.
Fellows will each receive a $10,000 grant to accompany a 12-month, full-time placement at a host nonprofit, a salary of $85,000, and ongoing training. Applications opened Wednesday and will close July 17 for the first cohort of 100, which begins in Oct. 2026. Subsequent cohorts start in Jan. 2027 and Aug. 2027, the company said.
To administer the program, Anthropic brought in CodePath, a nonprofit headquartered in San Francisco whose mission centers on opening doors to the tech industry for college students from low-income and first-generation backgrounds. Fellows will be officially employed through CodePath, which will also oversee their training. Social Finance, a nonprofit and registered investment advisor, will handle measurement and evaluation and build a financial vehicle to help the program grow, the company said.
The program sets a low bar for entry — applicants need only be 18 or older, hold authorization to work in the U.S., and have no more than two years of full-time work experience; a college degree is not required. CodePath CEO Michael Ellison described the intent to the Associated Press as making the opportunity as widely available as possible.
Among the organizations slated to host fellows in the first year are RAINN, Goodwill Industries International, Code for America, Year Up United, the YMCA of Greater Charlotte, and the Montgomery County Food Bank in Texas, along with more than 400 nonprofits in total.
Daniela Amodei, Anthropic's president, expressed ambitions for Claude Corps to expand well past its initial footprint. She envisions it becoming a replicable model. "We're hoping it's a good idea that can take root and that other people can build on and learn from, whether that's public or private," she said.
Valued at $965 billion, Anthropic has been building out its partner network across enterprise and consulting channels, and earlier this month it submitted a confidential IPO filing.
On the same day, Anthropic disclosed a separate $200 million commitment aimed at building an economic framework to address displacement caused by AI.
