If you don't have space for both a washer and dryer, you're not doomed to lugging your clothes to a laundromat. There are more and more options on the market for all-in-one machines that both wash and dry your clothes.
"These dual-function machines take a load off on laundry day by eliminating the hassle of transferring wet clothes from the washer to the dryer," Consumer Reports said. The Samsung WD53DBA900HZ Combination Washer-Dryer scored the highest among the dual-machines tested thanks to great washing, plus energy and water efficiency. Still, Consumer Reports said "like most machines of this type, its dryer performance is less than satisfactory, and it lacks a moisture sensor that turns off the dryer quickly when clothes are actually dry." It starts at $2,100.

LG's combination model is a bit lower-rated than Samsung's, but it costs almost $500 less at $1,651. "This model got high marks for energy and water efficiency in its washing mode, but it tended to vibrate and wasn’t the most gentle on clothing," Consumer Reports said. The LG does a pretty solid job drying and is quiet when operating.

Consumer Reports liked this GE model's "sleek" look. And it's a large, with room for a comforter or lots of clothes. But it needs at least two hours or more to dry most loads. It costs around $2,000.
