Short ranges are holding many people back from switching to an electric vehicle. But as more EVs enter the market and technology progresses, the amount they can travel on a single charge is getting longer and longer.
Consumer Reports made a list of the EVs with the best ranges, comparing the cars' EPA estimates to its own testing.

The Tesla $TSLA Cybertruck (2024 Foundation Series, AWD, 20-inch wheels) has an EPA range of 325 miles — the government's official estimate under controlled conditions — but Consumer Reports' real-world highway testing found it actually travels slightly farther, achieving 334 miles.

The Lucid $LCID Air (2023 Touring, AWD, 20-inch wheels) carries an EPA range rating of 396 miles, but when Consumer Reports tested it, the car fell noticeably short of that figure, logging 344 miles. It still ranked fifth.

The Audi A6 Sportback e-tron (2025 Quattro, AWD, 20-inch wheels) is one of the few EVs here where real-world performance beat the official estimate: its EPA range is 333 miles, but Consumer Reports' highway testing yielded 347 miles, adding 14 miles.

The Rivian $RIVN R1S (2025 Dual Max, AWD, 22-inch wheels) is rated at 410 miles by the EPA, but Consumer Reports' testing brought that number down considerably, with a recorded range of 358 miles — 52 miles less than the official rating. It's still one of the best out there.

The Tesla $TSLA Model S (2021 Long Range, AWD, 19-inch wheels) holds an EPA range of 410 miles, though Consumer Reports' highway testing produced a notably lower result of 366 miles, falling short of the EPA figure by 44 miles.

The Chevrolet Silverado EV (2024 RST, AWD, 24-inch wheels) tops the chart with the longest range: the EPA rates it at 493 miles, and while Consumer Reports' highway test came in somewhat lower at 472 miles, that 21-mile difference still leaves it well ahead of every other EV on this list.
