The 10 best gas grills of 2026: Consumer Reports

A gas grill is the centerpiece of outdoor cooking for millions of households, but the performance gap between models is bigger than most shoppers expect. Grills are tested on several key metrics, including how evenly they distribute heat across the cooking surface, how quickly they reach cooking temperature, and how well they slow-cook food away from direct flame. A grill that fails those tests will produce unevenly cooked food no matter how experienced the cook.

For shoppers who want to skip the guesswork, Consumer Reports evaluated gas grills across three size categories on evenness, temperature range, indirect cooking performance, preheat speed, and convenience to find the 10 models worth buying.

At $1,259, this large Napoleon leads all 11 grills with an overall score of 78 out of 100. Consumer Reports found excellent results in preheat performance and indirect cooking, meaning it reaches high temperatures fast and handles slow cooking without overcooking edges. CR also rated evenness as very good, so food on the left side of the grate cooks at the same rate as food on the right. Napoleon's gas grills earn near-top marks in CR member surveys for projected reliability and owner satisfaction.

CR also found very solid scores for evenness and preheat performance. The model includes a side shelf, an auxiliary burner, and cast-steel cooking grates, and Napoleon earns some of the highest reliability and owner satisfaction ratings in CR's member surveys.
