Faced with a plethora of options, Consumer Reports managed to narrow it down to the best four robot vacuums

What’s better than spotless floors you didn’t have to clean? It's why many Americans are investing in a robot vacuum cleaner. But the market is flooded with options.
Consumer Reports helped sort through the noise, testing a slew of models and identifying the four it thinks are your best bet.

Dyson’s robot vacuum starts at almost $1,000, but can often be found on sale for around $350. “It’s on the heavy side, but compensates with extremely strong suction, effectively picking up pet hair,” CR said. It said the dust bin is small, but emptying it is a breeze.

A more affordable option, the Eufy costs around $220 and is good if you have a lot of hardwood floors in your home. It’s not great at carpets though, so if your floors are covered head-to-toe, you might want to pick a different model.

Eureka’s robot vacuum is another affordable pick, retailing for $250. Unlike the Eufy model, it’s great at carpets, and works well for hardwood floors too. “Though it’s a strong cleaner, it’s not necessarily as efficient as some of the other models we’ve tested,” CR said. “We noticed that it takes longer than other robot vacuums to fully clean our test area.”

The iRobot Roomba Max 705 is particularly good at cleaning carpets. It’s more expensive than others on the list, at $600, but “it’s quiet and performs well in every cleaning test we’ve thrown at it," CR said. It’s also better than the competition at avoiding obstructions in its path.
