Canva launched a Connected App for Google $GOOGL Gemini on May 19, giving Gemini users the ability to generate, edit, and search Canva designs from within a conversation, completing the company's integration across all four major AI assistants.
As of May 19, the rollout is initially limited and the company said broader availability is expected within weeks. Rather than producing a static image, the tool returns a Canva file that users can continue to modify after generation. For users with a Brand Kit on file, the generated design pulls in saved logos, typefaces, and color schemes without any additional steps.
Users working with Google's image generation can also pipe those outputs directly into Canva's Magic Layers tool, which breaks a finished AI image into individually editable components, according to The Next Web.
Anwar Haneef, Canva's general manager and head of ecosystem, pointed to the persistent gap between raw AI output and assets that are actually ready to publish. "The biggest friction in AI-powered creative work for companies has always been the gap between AI output and brand-ready asset," he said. "Bringing the Canva Design Engine and Canva Brand Kits into AI tools removes that step."
With Gemini now added to the roster, every major AI assistant on the market — Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft $MSFT Copilot, and Gemini — can tap Canva's API to surface designs, retrieve brand kit data, and pull templates, all without routing users to a separate app, according to The Next Web.
The Gemini launch was announced at Google I/O, according to The Next Web.
The integration strategy follows Canva's broader push into AI-driven workflows. The company relaunched its platform as Canva AI 2.0 earlier this year, replacing its template-first approach with AI agents that build and iterate designs from conversational prompts. That platform connects to external services including Gmail, Slack $WORK, Zoom $ZM, Google Drive, and HubSpot, and includes a persistent memory feature that tracks individual working patterns over time.
Canva reported $4 billion in revenue for 2025 and counts 220 million users globally, the company said. At the same Google I/O event, Google introduced Pics, a text-to-graphic tool woven into Workspace that puts it in direct competition with Canva on its own turf, according to The Next Web.
