Chick-fil-A is adding a mac and cheese kids meal

Before this addition, chicken — either grilled or crispy, in nugget or strip form — was the only entrée available in kids meals, according to Allrecipes. The new meal gives customers an alternative for diners who want to skip the chicken.

The meal is built around a medium portion of mac and cheese, paired with a side, a drink, and a prize. For an extra cost, bacon can be added to the dish. Available sides are Chick-fil-A Waffle Potato Fries, waffle potato chips, applesauce, and fruit cup. On the beverage side, customers can select from white milk, chocolate milk, apple juice, orange juice, or bottled water, and fountain or frozen drinks are available as an upgrade.

The entrée portion of the meal contains 450 calories, 29 grams of total fat, 20 grams of protein, and 1,190 milligrams of sodium, the company said. The dish contains milk, egg, soy, and wheat allergens. Its cheese blend includes American, cheddar, Montamore, parmesan, asiago, and Romano cheeses.

Like all kids meals at the chain, this one includes a prize, though diners have the option to trade it in for ice cream instead. A new set of prizes tied to the chain's cow mascot is also being introduced, with options that include a cow-themed keychain, a cardboard rolling toy, Hasbro-branded cow games, and a case housing a selection of foldable games. The new prizes are available at select locations.
