Coca-Cola $KO's Fairlife dairy subsidiary has suspended all U.S. production operations after a ransomware attack gave an unauthorized third party access to a portion of its systems, including production-related systems, the company said Thursday.
The company said it detected the unauthorized access and activated incident response and business continuity protocols. Coca-Cola is working with outside advisers and cybersecurity experts and has notified law enforcement, it said. The full scope and impact of the attack remain under investigation.
Product quality and safety have not been affected, the company said. Fairlife's production operations in Canada are not currently impacted.
Coca-Cola disclosed the incident in a Form 8-K filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The company said it has not yet determined whether the attack is likely to have a material effect on the company.
Fairlife's product lineup includes ultra-filtered milk, protein shakes, and nutrition drinks distributed across the U.S., according to BleepingComputer. Among those offerings are Ultra-Filtered Milk, Core Power Protein Shakes, and Nutrition Plan.
Key details remain undisclosed, including whether attackers exfiltrated data, whether a ransom demand has been made, and which threat actor carried out the attack, according to BleepingComputer. No ransomware group has claimed responsibility.
Coca-Cola completed its purchase of Fairlife from Select Milk Producers in 2020 in a deal worth roughly $7 billion, according to Bloomberg. Fairlife had an estimated $4 billion in sales by 2024, according to TechCrunch.
Coca-Cola stock slipped 1.1% in extended trading Thursday.
