All 98 U.S. locations will begin resetting selling floors April 24 as the chain prepares to become The Container Store + Bed Bath & Beyond
The Container Store launched a chainwide "Store Changing" event on April 24, liquidating about 30% of select categories and SKUs across all 98 of its U.S. locations to make room for Bed Bath & Beyond products as part of a planned merger integration.
The discounted merchandise will be available for a limited time as stores reset their selling floors. Stores opened one hour early on April 25 and April 26, with early shoppers receiving an additional 5% discount, the company said.
"This is a reset with purpose," Jen Pape, SVP of stores at The Container Store, said in a statement. "We are actively reshaping our stores to make room for what's next. By streamlining select categories today, we're creating the space and flexibility needed to introduce Bed Bath & Beyond products and deliver a more complete home experience for our customers."
Beginning in May, the identified locations are expected to transition in phases to a combined format called The Container Store + Bed Bath & Beyond. The reimagined stores will combine The Container Store's organizing products, in-home services, and expertise with an expanded home assortment from Bed Bath & Beyond.
The Container Store is part of Bed Bath & Beyond, Inc. (NYSE: BBBY), which describes the rollout as an advancement of its broader "Everything Home" strategy — bringing together organization, furnishings, essentials, services, and solutions under one roof.
Among the 98 locations are four in Southern California that will take on the combined format, according to abc7. Those include stores in Century City, El Segundo, and Woodland Hills in Los Angeles County, and a location in Costa Mesa in Orange County.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom welcomed the retailer's return to the state, abc7 reported. "There's a lot of profit to be made in California — and we're thrilled that Bed, Bath & Beyond is opening stores in the Golden State and taking advantage of the benefits of the world's fastest-growing economy," Newsom said in a statement.
A 2023 bankruptcy filing led to the shuttering of every Bed Bath & Beyond store in the country, according to abc7. Through its integration with The Container Store, the once-defunct brand is re-entering physical retail for the first time since that closure.
The full list of participating locations spans more than 20 states, with particularly heavy representation in Texas, California, Virginia, New Jersey, and Florida, according to the company's investor announcement.
