Galliker Dairy recalled 74 cases of the mix distributed to DQ locations in 5 northeastern states in May

Galliker Dairy Co., Inc. recalled 74 cases of its DQ Chocolate Reduced Fat Ice Cream Mix after metal shavings were found in the product, the FDA said. The mix is combined with Dairy Queen's soft-serve equipment to create the chain's chocolate soft-serve menu offerings.
The Altoona, Pennsylvania-based dairy company initiated the recall on May 21. The affected product was distributed in five-gallon bags to Dairy Queen restaurants in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, according to the FDA.
On May 28, the FDA assigned the recall a Class II risk level, which the agency defines as covering situations where contact with a product "may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote," according to Yahoo.
The recalled product carries the identifying code "Jun1226," according to Allrecipes, which noted the code may represent the mix's expiration date, meaning the product would not be in circulation at restaurants now regardless. The FDA's listing shows the recall as completed, suggesting that Dairy Queen locations that received the product have dealt with it and are no longer serving the affected mix.
Although the recall remains open and has not been formally terminated, the FDA has stopped short of advising consumers to stay away from Dairy Queen. Dairy Queen had not responded to a request for comment from Allrecipes at the time of publication.
