Hi there, Quartz members!

Day three of our close look at China’s electric-car program continues with three new articles. Here’s what’s in store:

Inside BYD, China’s EV champion

Quick—name the world’s biggest maker and seller of electric vehicles. Nope, it’s not Tesla—it’s BYD, a 15-year old Chinese automaker that’s vaulted to the top of the Chinese market and is expanding globally. We go inside the company (which includes an amazing photo essay) and look at how some bold moves, along with government assistance, created a new heavyweight in the auto industry.

Does this look familiar?

Chinese automakers had little to no shame in the past when it came to copying other cars’ designs. Our interactive shows just how similar many of the cars made by Chinese manufacturers are when compared to their international inspirations.

More’s on the way

Our coverage continues tomorrow and Friday, including:

  • A history of China’s automotive ambitions
  • China’s self-driving efforts
  • China’s dominance of motorbikes and scooters
  • The rise of Chinese electric buses around the world

We’ll also have a conference call for members to talk more about China and its electric-vehicle evolution at 10am EST on Friday. Stay tuned for details.

Let’s keep learning. Send ideas, questions, comments, and knock-off Audis to members@qz.com.

Hope you have a rewarding day,

Sam Grobart
