Hi Quartz members!
Microsoft and more
We’ll continue our look at Microsoft today with an essay by Dave Gershgorn looks at the years the company was lead by former CEO Steve Ballmer. Most people characterize that era by highlighting Microsoft’s many failures during that time, but Dave makes the persuasive case that Ballmer, while perhaps too focused on selling Windows licenses, nevertheless was responsible for the creation of Azure and Dynamics 365—two of Microsoft’s most successful cloud-based businesses.
We also have a new Private Key feature, looking at how the Indian government’s distaste for cryptocurrencies doesn’t mean it disfavors blockchain, and how many Indian crypto firms are pivoting to blockchain in order to survive.
And we close out today with our business book primer. This week, we’re looking at Peter Drucker’s seminal management book The Effective Executive.
We’ll have more on Microsoft this week, including a Q&A with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, a timeline of Microsoft’s changing set of competitors, charts and more charts, as well as other features like Insider View and Consummate Consumer.
Let’s keep learning. Send questions, comments, and enthusiasm to members@qz.com.
Here’s to a rewarding day,
