Two people were arrested Wednesday after scaling the antenna atop the Empire State Building in New York City, where they unfurled a banner and one appeared to propose to the other before both were taken into custody, according to The Associated Press.
Both climbers wore black clothing and masks as they made their way to the antenna's peak, 1,454 feet above midtown Manhattan, where they held up a banner that read "When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace." News helicopter footage showed no visible safety harnesses or tethers, according to the AP.
Shortly after 12:30 p.m., the climbers made their way down to a broader platform on the antenna, where one knelt before the other in what appeared to be a marriage proposal. After kissing, one of them held up a left hand for what looked like selfies, suggesting a ring was being shown off, according to CBS News. Both were taken into custody at around 1 p.m. with no injuries reported.
