Two safety recalls announced Tuesday by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration cover a combined 110,626 Ford $F Mustang vehicles, with defective windshield wipers and a fracture-prone powertrain part at the center of the actions.
A wiper malfunction affecting 67,842 Mustang and Mustang GTD vehicles prompted the first and larger of the two recalls. NHTSA said cold weather can cause the wipers on those vehicles to get stuck operating at high speed while the washer fluid system stops functioning.
The second recall affects 42,784 Mustang Mach-E vehicles. NHTSA warned that a cracked or broken rear differential pinion shaft could leave drivers without propulsion, and that vehicles parked without the brake engaged could roll away as a result of the failure.
Owners will not be charged for the necessary repairs or part replacements, which are to be carried out at dealerships.
