The defect can prevent seat belts from retracting or extending properly, increasing the risk of injury in a crash

The recall covers certain 2018-2022 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said. A fault in the pretensioner mechanism can cause the seat belt to lock up unexpectedly, whether in the driver's position, the front passenger's position, or both, making it impossible for the belt to move freely.
Vehicle owners will not be charged for the fix; dealerships will examine the seat belt retractors and swap them out as needed, according to the NHTSA.
