Gemini Spark works 24/7 on behalf of users across Gmail, Google Docs, and other Workspace apps, with a broader rollout coming next week

Google $GOOGL announced Gemini Spark, a personal AI agent that operates continuously to complete tasks on a user's behalf, at its annual I/O developer conference on Tuesday. The agent is built on Gemini 3.5 Flash, Google's latest model, and runs on Google Cloud infrastructure, meaning users do not need to keep a device active for it to function.
Google is rolling out Gemini Spark to trusted testers now, with a wider beta release planned for Google AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S. next week. AI Ultra is a subscription tier priced at $100 a month, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Gmail, Google Docs, and the broader suite of Google Workspace tools are all natively accessible to Spark without additional setup. Reaching the agent is as simple as sending a message to a designated Gmail address, and Spark uses Chrome to carry out any web-based tasks. A new Android feature called Android Halo lets mobile users keep tabs on what Spark is doing, according to TechCrunch.
"It's your personal AI agent that helps you navigate your digital life, taking action on your behalf and under your direction," Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai told reporters during a briefing ahead of the event. "It runs on dedicated virtual machines on Google Cloud seamlessly, [so] you don't need to keep your laptop open to make sure it's running."
Google Labs VP Josh Woodward $WWD described a range of practical uses for the agent. "Need to send an email to your boss with a status update? Spark can pull all the facts from your emails, your docs, your sheets, and slides and write the draft for you," Woodward said. "Small businesses are using Spark. They can watch over their inbox, so they never miss a question from a customer."
Third-party service connections via MCP are also part of Spark's feature set, and the company has signaled that additional integrations are on the roadmap.
Spark arrives as competitors have built out their own agentic offerings. Anthropic and OpenAI have each released personal agent products, according to TechCrunch, though Google's integration with its own suite of productivity tools gives Spark ready-made access to data sources that rival agents would need to connect to separately.
Underlying Spark is Gemini 3.5 Flash, a model Google describes as optimized for agentic and coding tasks; the company says it delivers comparable frontier-level performance at a fraction of the cost and with substantially lower latency than rival models. The company said 3.5 Flash is now the default model for the Gemini app and AI Mode in Google Search globally.
Google reported first-quarter 2026 revenue of $109.9 billion, up 22% year over year, with Google Cloud a notable engine of that growth, generating $20.03 billion for the quarter — a 63% year-over-year increase. The company said its Gemini Enterprise product saw 40% quarter-on-quarter growth in paid monthly active users in the quarter. Earlier this year, Google launched the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, a centralized product for enterprise agent development that absorbed all of Vertex AI's services.
