Horizon Organic Dairy is recalling more than 63,000 eight-ounce cartons of its shelf-stable chocolate milk after a packaging seal defect was found that can cause boxes to swell, leak, or spoil the milk.

March 11 was when the recall originated, though it took until May 5 for the FDA to assign it a Class II designation — the agency's label for situations where a product poses a low probability of serious harm but could still produce temporary or medically reversible health effects.

The recall includes six- and 18-packs of Organic Lowfat Chocolate Milk Box with DHA Omega-3 sold in Arizona, California, Nevada, and Oregon. Look for UPC 742365004322, item number 136518, and best-by dates of August 14 and 15, 2026, to identify affected cartons. No other Horizon Organic products are involved.

According to Horizon, steps have been taken to address the root cause and prevent the packaging defect from happening again. Anyone who purchased the affected cartons is advised to dispose of them, save their receipt or proof of purchase, and reach out to Horizon directly at 1-888-494-3020 to inquire about reimbursement.
