HP $HPQ Inc. announced a strategic partnership with OpenAI on Sunday to deploy the company's Frontier enterprise AI platform across its global operations, making HP one of the first large enterprises to adopt the platform at scale.
Released in February 2026, Frontier is OpenAI's enterprise offering built to handle the full lifecycle of AI agents — from initial creation through large-scale production deployment. According to HP, Frontier will be rolled out across four domains within the company: tools serving customers and partners, telemetry-driven insights flowing through the Workforce Experience Platform (WXP), productivity support for employees, and engineering and software work.
"With OpenAI there is an opportunity to fundamentally rethink how AI can deliver better outcomes," said Prakash Arunkundrum, HP's chief strategy and transformation officer, in a statement. "HP is planning to build a more consistent experience across store, partner, chat, and voice experiences, giving customers and partners faster ways to get answers, complete routine workflows, and move toward resolution."
HP began evaluating Frontier in Feb. 2026 through a pilot program that tested the platform's agentic capabilities, security features, and enterprise integration. Security work that previously required around a month to complete was brought down to a single day once HP's security teams applied OpenAI tooling during the pilot, a shift that freed up an estimated 82 hours of staff time each week. In another pilot result cited by Cryptopolitan, one engineer working with OpenAI models moved 122 pull requests through 43 separate projects within just a few weeks.
Partners are central to HP's commercial model — they account for more than 80% of revenue and number over 100,000 worldwide — and Frontier-powered agents are expected to give those partners faster, automated access to information about HP's programs and internal processes, according to the outlet.
"HP is showing what enterprise transformation looks like when AI becomes an operating layer — connected to the systems and workflows where work already happens," Denise Dresser, OpenAI's chief revenue officer, said in a statement.
The two companies plan to co-develop additional use cases with a focus on data integration, governance, and security, HP said. On the hardware side, HP is working toward devices purpose-built for continuous agentic AI operation, with WXP — recently designated a Gartner Magic Quadrant leader in Digital Employee Experience Management Tools for 2026 — serving as the management layer for those devices.
The HP deal is a significant enterprise win for OpenAI at a moment of growing scrutiny over AI spending. A rising number of enterprise customers have been pulling back from OpenAI and Anthropic, demanding clearer returns on investment and switching to lower-cost alternatives. Among the other companies that signed on as early Frontier adopters are Intuit $INTU, Oracle $ORCL, State Farm, Thermo Fisher $TMO Scientific, and Uber $UBER, according to the outlet.
