Nintendo plans to make 20 million Switch devices—if it can get the right parts

After selling 2.7 million units of the Switch gaming console in March, when it launched, Nintendo now plans to manufacture 20 million devices until next March.

But the Japanese company is having a hard time finding the electronic components that it needs to produce the Switch.

That’s because electronic equipment makers and data centers also use the same parts, sometimes at much larger quantities.

And manufacturers are not managing to keep up with the demand for things like memory chips, liquid-crystal displays, and small motors.

If the competition increases and Nintendo is forced to pay more for the components, it might have to raise the price of the Switch.

Even if that does not happen, for now, this means that the device, which costs $300, will continue to be hard to find.
