Authorities in County Kerry have classified the death of a woman whose body was found at a Muckross Road address in Killarney as murder, according to BBC News.
Local reports identify the victim as Jamey Carney, a New York-born woman in her 40s who had relocated to Killarney approximately five years before her death. She shared a home on Muckross Road with her daughter, according to BBC News.

Gardaí confirmed Thursday that the man, whom they have labeled a "person of interest," departed Irish soil in the early hours of Tuesday morning — hours before Carney's body was found, according to BBC News. According to RTÉ, the man — who is believed to have been acquainted with Carney — made his way by bus to Dublin before catching a flight bound for the Middle East, his reported region of origin. Gardaí said they are working with international law enforcement partners in connection with the investigation.
The state pathologist completed a post-mortem examination on Wednesday. Gardaí have put out a public appeal for anyone with video footage — dashcam or CCTV — captured in the Muckross Road area of Killarney during the roughly 18-hour window spanning the evening of July 6 through the afternoon of July 7, 2026, to bring that material forward to the investigation team, according to BBC News.
An incident room has been established at Killarney Garda station, and a senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the case.
O'Donoghue, who serves as Killarney's cathaoirleach, told BBC News the killing had upended what had been a festive mood in the town, with sunny weather drawing locals and visitors into the streets before news of Carney's death spread. Fellow councillor Niall O'Callaghan described the community's mood as one of shock and grief, offering condolences to Carney's family and urging anyone with information to contact Gardaí.
