McDonald's is rolling out 6 new specialty drinks at U.S. locations starting May 6

McDonald's $MCD is launching six specialty drinks at restaurants nationwide beginning May 6, the company said, adding three refreshers and three crafted sodas to its permanent menu.

The three refreshers — Strawberry Watermelon, Mango Pineapple, and Blackberry Passion Fruit — each use a lemonade base and include either freeze-dried fruit or strawberry popping boba, according to McDonald's. All three contain caffeine.

The three crafted sodas build on existing McDonald's $MCD drinks. Sprite Berry Blast combines Sprite with a blue raspberry syrup and cold foam. Orange Dream mixes Hi-C Orange Lavaburst with vanilla flavor and cold foam. Dirty Dr Pepper $DPS layers Dr Pepper with vanilla flavor and cold foam.

"Our fans have an obsession with beverages — to them, drinks are more than just drinks," Alyssa Buetikofer, McDonald's $MCD USA chief marketing and customer experience officer, said in a statement. "We've taken the time to get this right, introducing new drinks that are hand-crafted with bold flavors and quality ingredients our fans can taste in every sip."

Buetikofer said the scale of McDonald's U.S. footprint — about 14,000 restaurants — makes it possible to deliver the drinks at volume.

Roughly 95% of McDonald's approximately 13,500 U.S. restaurants are owned and operated by independent franchisees, the company said.

In connection with the launch, McDonald's is partnering with accessories brand Susan Alexandra on six limited-edition beaded drink carriers. Each carrier includes a $10 McDonald's Arch Card and will be available for purchase on SusanAlexandra.com starting May 6, while supplies last.
