Meta $META signed an agreement with Overview Energy to secure up to 1 gigawatt of capacity from a space-based solar power system, with commercial delivery expected by 2030.
Rather than building new ground infrastructure, Overview Energy's approach involves capturing sunlight from orbit and transmitting it as low-intensity, near-infrared light down to existing terrestrial solar installations, enabling continuous electricity generation day and night. The companies have set 2028 as the target date for a first orbital test. Neither company provided details on the financial structure of the agreement.
