Morningstar Farms, a plant-based food brand owned by Mars, Inc., is voluntarily recalling two frozen products sold in the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Costa Rica because they may contain plastic pieces, the company said.
The recall covers Morningstar Farms Buffalo Chik'n Nuggets in 10.5-ounce packages and Morningstar Farms Hot & Spicy Sausage Patties in 8-ounce packages, the company said. No other Morningstar Farms products are affected.
Customer complaints about plastic pieces in the food prompted the company to issue the recall, according to ABC News. The products were distributed to grocery stores nationwide, the company said.
The Buffalo Chik'n Nuggets packages subject to the recall bear UPC code 000 28989 10110 5 and a "Better If Used Before" date of either July 7 or July 8, 2027. For the Hot & Spicy Sausage Patties, the relevant UPC code is 000 28989 10094 8, with "Better If Used Before" dates falling on July 5, 6, or 7, 2027, the company said.
The recalled items should be thrown away rather than consumed, and buyers can reach out to the company to receive a full refund, Morningstar Farms said.
"At Morningstar Farms, protecting the safety and wellbeing of our consumers is our highest priority," a Mars spokesperson said in a statement to ABC News. "As soon as we learned of a potential issue, we moved quickly to investigate and identify any foods produced that might be impacted. We have addressed the issue and enhanced our quality control procedures to prevent a similar situation occurring in the future."
No injuries have been reported in connection with the recall, the Mars spokesperson said.
Questions about the recall can be directed to Morningstar Farms Consumer Affairs, available weekdays between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET at 800-962-0120 by phone or 877-453-5837 by text, the company said.
