Many popular vehicles are actually selling above their MSRPs, according to data from Consumer Reports and TrueCar

With vehicle costs nearing record highs, ensuring you don't overpay for your next ride is more important than ever.
But many popular cars on the market are actually selling above their MSRPs. Consumer Reports and TrueCar, a car retailer, compiled a list of overpriced new cars.
“A trend we’re routinely seeing is that work-oriented trucks (notably the Chevrolet Silverado this month), low-priced vehicles, special-edition sports cars, and front-drive SUVs are more often the models selling for over sticker,” CR wrote. What’s strange: Many of the vehicles selling above market price aren’t even particularly highly-rated models.

The Honda $HMC Prelude is currently selling for 5% over the sticker price. Consumer Reports found the average transaction price for the coupe is $44,658. On average, people are paying $2,158 over the MSRP.

The Kia K4 is currently selling for 5% over the sticker price. Consumer Reports found the average transaction price for the sedan is $26,229. On average, people are paying $1,239 over the MSRP.
