Two skydivers collided in midair over Ritzville, Washington, leaving one person dead and the other requiring medical care, ABC News reported.
The Adams County Sheriff's Office dispatched emergency personnel to Skydive West Plains — a dropzone situated about 55 miles southwest of Spokane — after a call came in at approximately 5:37 p.m. Sunday. Upon arrival, deputies determined the two skydivers had struck each other while descending, according to ABC News.
The impact left one skydiver unable to control his parachute, ABC News reported. People on the ground watched as he floated off course from the intended landing area until he passed out of sight over a hillside. The injured skydiver required treatment at a medical facility.
The jump was part of a group outing involving 11 participants in all. Investigators have not identified weather as a factor and continue to look into what caused the collision, ABC News reported.
