There was a time, not that long ago, when retailers decided to make Thanksgiving Day part of the holiday shopping season, with Black Friday-like deals, luring tryptophan-stuffed people off of their couches into stores.
Financially, it worked — but it irked employees who had to give up time with friends and family for a high-stress day, and shoppers weren’t much happier about it. Those days are largely gone, but some retailers will still be open on Turkey Day 2025. And if you’re realizing you didn’t buy enough potatoes or accidentally burned the stuffing, you likely won’t have much trouble finding a grocery store that’s open.
Here’s a look at the stores that will—and won't—be open on Thanksgiving 2025. Note, as always, that hours may vary, so it's a good idea to call first. Some grocers close as early as noon. Keep in mind also that blue laws in Maine, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island prohibit retailers from being open in those states.
