Metal fragments may be present in select organic ice cream products made by Straus Family Creamery, prompting the company to issue a voluntary recall covering multiple flavors and container sizes. No injuries have been reported.

According to CBS News, the recalled ice cream was sent to stores in 17 states, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin. The products first appeared in stores on May 4.

The recall applies to certain batches marked with specific "best by" dates on the bottom of each container. NBC News reports that the affected products are vanilla bean pints (Dec. 23 and Dec. 28, 2026), strawberry quarts (Dec. 24, 2026), strawberry pints (Dec. 25, 2026), cookie dough pints (Dec. 26, 2026), Dutch chocolate quarts (Dec. 27, 2026), and mint chip pints (Dec. 30, 2026). These ice creams are sold in paper cups with a seal and lid.

Not all Straus ice cream is included in the recall, the company said. The company said corrective actions are in place, and it has been in contact with retail partners to pull the implicated inventory.

Anyone who bought one of the recalled containers should throw it away rather than bringing it back to the place of purchase. In lieu of refunds, the creamery is making vouchers available for replacement purchases; customers can submit a request for one through the Straus website. Those with questions can contact Straus Family Creamery at [email protected] or by calling 1-707-776-2887, Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT.

Based in Petaluma, California, Straus Family Creamery has produced certified organic dairy products since 1994.
