A truce reached in June between Washington and Tehran has disintegrated, with military exchanges resuming between the two countries and the threat of Iranian aggression once again choking off commercial passage through the Strait of Hormuz, according to The New York Times.
Trump announced the deal on June 14, writing "The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all!" The agreement was formally signed June 17, according to The Times. Under its terms, American bombing stopped, the strait was opened to tanker traffic, and global oil prices fell as a result. "Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!" Trump wrote at the time.
