U.S. sinks Iranian boats as Iran attacks UAE, Hormuz ships

Iran's barrage against the UAE comprised 12 ballistic missiles, three cruise missiles, and four drones, according to the UAE Ministry of Defense, which said air defenses engaged the bulk of the incoming weapons, according to CBS News. A drone suspected to be Iranian sparked a blaze at the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone that sent three Indian nationals to the hospital, while a separate strike on a worker housing block in Oman's Musandam Peninsula left two foreign employees with moderate injuries.

Iran sent two drones at an ADNOC vessel as it moved through the strait, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, noting that no one aboard was hurt. The HMM Namu, a South Korean cargo ship, suffered an explosion in the strait, though South Korean authorities confirmed the fire aboard the vessel was fully put out and none of its 24 crew members suffered injuries, according to CBS News. President Trump wrote on Truth Social that the South Korean incident was the only damage inflicted on ships during the operation, and urged South Korea to "come and join the mission."

Posting on social media, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi acknowledged that Pakistani-mediated negotiations were advancing while denouncing the U.S. operation — dubbing it "Project Deadlock" and insisting that "no military solution to a political crisis" existed, according to CBS News. Riyadh issued a call for restraint on both sides, with Saudi Arabia's foreign ministry denouncing Iran for striking civilian and economic targets inside the UAE, according to ABC News.

Vessel traffic through the strait — a chokepoint for roughly a fifth of global oil supply — has dropped more than 90 percent since the U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict erupted on Feb. 28, the U.K. Royal Navy reported. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who leads Iran's negotiating team and also serves as parliament speaker, posted on social media Tuesday that Tehran had "not even started yet" when it came to the confrontation over the strait, according to CBS News.
