Social media is huge in the Phillipines—and many other emerging economies

While 74% of US adult internet users say they’re on Facebook, Twitter, and the like, the median is 82% across the countries covered by the Pew report.

In the Philippines? A staggering 93%.

This deep penetration comes even though internet access isn’t as common in many of these countries as it is in the US: only 42% of Philippines adults get online even occasionally, or own a smartphone.
