The bad news: San Francisco has the highest median rents of any of America’s large metropolitan areas, according to a recently released analysis by NYU’s Furman Center for Real Estate and Urban Policy.

The good news: Plenty of people in San Francisco can afford it. Income levels among San Francisco’s renters are the highest in the country’s big cities, a reflection of the super-hot tech sector that is turbocharging the local job market, as well as the city’s real estate market.
