On Weibo, China’s answer to Twitter, images of a Halloween costume worn by a little girl in Taiwan have gone viral.

The child was said to have been participating in her kindergarten Halloween party. She was wearing a long black robe with her face in white, mimicking No-Face, or Kaonashi, a lonely spirit who swallowed things, and sometimes people, in Spirited Away, a 2001 Japanese anime fantasy film and one of the best films in the 21st century.

Some of the girls’ playmates seem to be terrified by her costume; the girl was standing alone most of the time in a video that made the social media rounds.

While the girl’s costume was liked thousands of times over, some felt sorry for the girl. One user wrote (link in Chinese, registration required), “Maybe the adults find it cute but not the kids, who just wanted to hang out with friends but not be seen as a different kind.”

The girl in black and white was dressing up as No-Face.
That is one scary costume.
