The US Supreme Court has overturned its own precedents 236 times during its 229 years of existence. If you think that sounds high, consider this: Between 1946 and 2016, there were 8,809 decisions made by the high court. During that same time, data from the US Government Publishing Office show 75 overturned decisions. That’s only 1.8% of rulings overturning prior decisions in whole or in part. The justices are strongly in favor of status quo.

The US Congress has failed to enact anti-lynching legislation at least 240 times. Now, more than 100 years since the first attempt, senators Cory Booker, Kamala Harris, and Tim Scott are hoping to right this historic wrong, and make lynching a federal hate crime.

Despite what you may have heard, the average American woman is not a size 16. The reality of women’s clothes sizing renders any attempt to pin the metric to a single number void of any significance. A woman with a 31-inch (79 cm) waist can go home with pants of size eight, 10, 12, 14, or 16. It just depends on the brand.

It sounds like hyperbole, but it isn’t: Half of American women struggle to find jeans that fit at the mall. More specifically, only 13% of women’s jeans in brick and mortar stores are available for women of average size or larger.
