Across the U.S., billionaires reside in cities big and small. Many are looking for locations that are close to their businesses or their families, have favorable tax systems, or just have a sunnier climate — and maybe access to a beach.

While 47 American states are home to at least one billionaire, there are three states that have zero 10-figure figures, according to Forbes. Take a look at the three states with the most billionaires, as well as the three that have none.

California has the fiercest competition for the richest person in the state, with 197 billionaires, according to Forbes.

The richest among them is Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who has a net worth of $177 billion. He is currently the world’s fourth-richest person, behind LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, and Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.

Although Zuckerberg also has a home in Hawaii, voting records reviewed by Forbes showed that his primary residence is still in the Golden State.

New York

New York is unsurprisingly home to the second-highest number of billionaires, with 139 residing in the state.

Florida has 107 billionaires — among them one of the richest people in the U.S.

Amazon founder and executive chairman Jeff Bezos announced last November that he would be relocating from Seattle, where the company’s headquarters have been located since 1994, to his hometown of Miami to be closer to family and the operations of his aerospace company, Blue Origin.

He has reportedly already purchased three homes on the same Miami-area island, known as South Florida’s “Billionaire Bunker.” Bezos has a net worth of over $200 billion, according to Forbes

Alaska

Alaska has no billionaires to its name. Leonard Hyde, president of commercial real estate developer JL Properties, has a net worth of $400 million and lives in Anchorage, Alaska, making him and his family the richest people in the state.

Although Delaware doesn’t have any billionaires, Elizabeth Snyder — Delaware’s richest person — has a $900 million net worth. Her fortune comes from the waterproof fabric Gore-Tex, developed by her family’s Newark, Delaware-based business, W.L. Gore & Associates.
