President Donald Trump said China has agreed to order 200 Boeing $BA jets following talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, according to CNBC.
"One thing he agreed to today, he's going to order 200 jets ... Boeing wanted 150, they got 200," Trump told Fox News' Sean Hannity in an interview excerpt released on Thursday, referring to Xi Jinping.
No details were given about which specific aircraft Beijing intends to buy, though the 737 Max has been widely cited by analysts as the likely centerpiece of any deal, according to Reuters.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had said earlier that he expected an announcement about a large Boeing order to come out of Trump's Beijing visit, according to Reuters.
The trip included Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg among a contingent of senior American business leaders who traveled with Trump, according to CNBC. Boeing and the White House did not immediately comment on the announcement.
Before the announcement, industry observers had anticipated the Beijing visit could yield a purchase of roughly 500 planes — more than twice the figure Trump revealed. It would mark a significant shift for Boeing, which has gone nearly ten years without securing a major sale to a Chinese customer, according to CNBC.
