A software fault that can cause dashboard displays to go blank while a vehicle is in motion has prompted a recall of 144,049 vehicles in the U.S., according to a Friday announcement from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Among the affected vehicles are certain AMG GT, C-Class, E-Class, SL, CLE, and GLC models from the 2024 through 2026 model years, NHTSA said. When the infotainment control unit resets unexpectedly during driving, the instrument panel display loses power entirely — a problem rooted in the unit's role in handling navigation and multimedia functions.
The fix will be carried out at no cost, with authorized service centers performing a software update to the infotainment control unit.
The action is the second significant Mercedes-Benz recall in recent months. The automaker earlier recalled about 24,000 vehicles over a driveshaft defect that could cause a sudden and complete loss of propulsion in certain 2018–2020 E-Class and S-Class 4MATIC models, with no prior warning to the driver. In that case, dealers were instructed to replace faulty driveshafts at no cost.
