A series of photos of Chinese children toting around photography gear worth thousands of dollars has gone viral on Renren, a Chinese social website similar to Facebook. In less than a day the post had been shared over 4,000 times and viewed over 40,000 times. It’s another demonstration of the growing wealth of the Chinese middle class in a country that in 2011 was home to the world’s fifth largest population of households with more than $100 million in assets.

Here are some of the photos, posted by a Renren user named Liu Li Yang.

The camera the boy in darker blue is holding, a Canon EOS 7D, costs upwards of $1,200 on Chinese websites. The exact type of lens isn’t clear, but it’s at least equally expensive
